Description

The colour of this wine is very intense. The nose is bursting with bright red cherries and cassis, along with subtle hints of violet and spice. On the palate, the tannins are structured but ripe and the complex flavours linger and develop on the finish.

This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot , Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes were hand harvested and carefully selected in the vineyard and then on the winery sorting table. It was then fermented at 26°C for 20 days, with pump overs twice a day. Following malolactic fermentation, the wine spent 18 months ageing in 60% new oak barriques before bottling.

Château Capbern is one of Saint-Estèphe's best-kept secrets. Being the sister property of third growth estate Château Calon-Ségur, it was owned by the Gasqueton family for ten generations before being sold in 2012 following the death of Denise Capbern-Gasqueton. The estate is named after the Capbern’s, who married into the Gasqueton family before they purchased the property in 1894.
